I had hiked a ways to find this moose, and then took about twenty minutes creeping up on him for the photo. I had failed to bring my telephoto and so had to get dangerously close. Though his expression looks threatening, he never showed any signs of being agitated, so I felt safe. After this experience, though, I never came so close again. The red on the moose's antlers is blood from him scraping off the velvety antler lining.
